i've been working on algebra now. why is the center (-4,-1) if in the equation is (X+4)

I am just a little confused

The formula is (x-h)²+(y-k)²

Both have minus

So when I plug it in

(x+(-4))²-(x-(-1))²

Shouldn't it be Center (-4,1)?
