The maximum height of the firework is the y-coordinate of the vertex. Simply change the quadratic into a transformation of y = t^2 and record the value of k. the form should be h = a(t - h’)^2 + k.

For number two, find the nonzero value of t where h = 0.

Visualize the trajectory the firework takes:  it's an upside-down parabola.

The max height is when it stops going up or when the rate of change of height = 0.

Rate of change ---> derivative

So take the derivative of the equation with respect to t, set it = 0 and solve for t.
