1st pic is of the answer sheet and the second of my calculator. I typed in the exact same equation yet got a different answer, why is this?

because the writing of the question isnt brilliant, its saying 2.5 not 2\*0.5

The answer sheet is writing "2 1/2" as a mixed number (instead of 5/2). So they really mean

    3/sqrt(2) - (5/2)*2*sqrt(2)

This can be reduced to -7/sqrt(2) which is indeed ~-4.95.

IMO, this is really stupid notation on behalf of the answer sheet, noone should write mixed numbers that way.
