Can I skip pre-algebra and go straight into algebra 1?

Generally speaking, don’t skip steps. While it may be tempting to do so, the better your understanding is of the basics, the easier of a time you will have learning more advanced topics that build on that material. Most students I work with struggle because they attempted to cut corners and save themselves time, which ends up backfiring on them and costing them time anyway.

You can skip whatever you want. Don't expect to be successful though.

So many things build upon previous concepts that you'll likely run into trouble and have to backtrack.

What are some of the concepts that you'd like to skip? That's important b/c you need to know what you're going to exclude going into Alg I.

Yes but better not, I'm a engineering student and a lot people think that one of the biggest reason students drop engineering is because complex mathematics and that's bullshit, is the algebra. That old high school algebra is the stone that make us trip and land on our faces.  

So, do things the right way.
