"Generalized Leontief production function" seems to be the keyword at the heart of what they're doing. And the field seems to be economics.

So I'd see what more you can find out about that term. I don't know what this kind of economic theory would be called that involves these kinds of diagrams, but perhaps following up on that term will give you some clues.
