All about the units on this one.  If bananas are one-third peel on average, then they're two-thirds edible on average assuming the peel is the only thing you don't eat.  So when you buy bananas at x dollars per pound, you buy (x dollars)/(2/3 edible pounds) of banana.  Do you see how that recombines to y dollars per edible pound?
