>health care professional

A little more background on that would really be necessary. Were you like a specialist in some field? A nurse? A family doctor?

I ask, because a friend of mine once did a presentation on ... an analysis of nerve cell dendritic spikes... or something along those lines. It was an in depth look at the current models used for analysis of signalling in the brain. They'd only had a few courses in maths, but had a whole background in neuroscience.

I guess what I'm saying is pick something you've run into from your life as a health care professional and find the maths modelling used in it, something you have non-maths hands on experience with. I can't speak for your professor, but in my experience being confident with a subject and slightly weaker talking about the maths gets you a better presentation even in maths courses.

How about a predator prey model? It was one of the first things I studied related to modelling in one of my differential equations courses, and could be relatively simple, but still interesting if you choose something cool?

Or, since you're a health care professional, would you be interested in a tumor growth model? I haven't looked into this deeply myself but I believe there are both ordinary and partial differential equation models, and you could choose one that is relatively more appropriate according to what you've done in your course.

(Also would have suggested a simple SIR model but seeing as you've worked on likely similar stuff, I'll leave that aside for now, unless you want to do that as well/instead)
