I would like to start working on my github portfolio that I could show off when applying to jobs (internship level atm). Either data science or quant finance/risk manager roles so I would like to include both financial time-series webscraping, analysis, modelling, visualization -this part is fine, I can just analyse some random stocks/sector- and some projects that focus mostly on more complex ML related ones. The latter I need some help, since i'm not a data science/software engineer student (doling quant finance) I'm 80% self-taught in ML, but I have no idea what projects to do on it.

Appreciate any feedback/idead on the matter

Do you have questions you want to answer? Usually I start with topics I'm interested in.

Things are going to differ, slightly, for quant finance and data science. For quant projects, I’d advice to not work on something that is hip and full of fluff (things like deep learning, etc.) but work on simple stuff rooted in the economic implication of what you are analysing.

On things you can explore one could be NLP for analysing textual data like analyst reports, financial news articles, financial statements & disclosures, and maybe even tweets (be careful this with one since it can have a lot of noise). Another interesting thing would be to look into ESG data.
