DS jobs 2023

Question

FAANG and many more companies laid off hundreds of thousands of employees.

What percentage of those laid off are data scientists?

Anecdotally, it doesn't seem DS was laid off in more or less percentage numbers than SWE or Designers.

Compared to recruiting where entire teams were gutted, haven't heard of any company being like "let's get rid of the whole DS function/team"

it depends on what you consider to be data scientists, because that title has been applied very liberally in recent times to cover what would have been just basic analyst jobs in the past.

meta, for example, had been aggressively hiring for well-paid sql + a/b test product jobs w/ DS titles for years. i'd be surprised if lots of those weren't included in recent layoffs.
